Junior Year!

I'm back! This is my third year of art and I can't wait for the projects that are to come this year. I originally wasn't going to take art again because I wanted to try other electives. I'm looking forward to the time capsule project because it is something new we have never done before. Another thing I am looking forward to is the pencil drawing. My favorite part about art is the sketch drawings because I like the shading and details you can include with the different pencils. I can't wait to start the assignments and I am looking forward to another great year with Mrs. Kiick.

Reflection

My art work from last year to this year has improved dramatically. My collages look more like collages, rather than just some magazine pages slapped onto a page and calling it finished. Through out this year, I have been more satisfied with my work than I was last year. I realized that if you think something is done, rather than knowing it is done, you aren't really done. The feeling of knowing that;this is done and I like it just how it is, means you are completely satisfied and wouldn't want to change a thing. Last year, I felt that when I was done a project, I was completely satisfied with what I have done. My favorite project this year, was the shoe drawing. This is something we did very early in the school year. I think I liked this project the most because I really shocked myself with what I can do. My shading and accuracy was so much better than last year. I have to admit, I was a bit nervous on adding color to it because I didn't want to mess it up, but I am extremely glad I did. Next year, I am going to take a break from art and see what other electives are out there. I have enjoyed my time as an art student and very lucky to have Mrs. Kiick as my teacher. Art will play some role in my career, when I am older, because I want to go into Architecture and I am thinking about interior design. It is always fun to see what new assignment Mrs. Kiick has in store and it always turns out to be a good one. I am sad that this year is just about over, but I have had a blast. Thank you for a great two years!

Short Story

One day, M.C. Escher woke up and held his shiny, majic ball in his hand trying to come up with an idea to construct his next work of art. He spent hours brainstorming ideas for his next piece. He looked at his reflection through the sphere and realized he is missing out on the natural beauty of life. So, he decided to take a drive to Ocean City. When he got there, he was amazed at the wonderful sights that were around him. Seagulls chirping with joy and hundreds of people enjoying the sights and entertainment. Escher noticed how much he was missing out on by just sitting in his library trying to think of a creative topic to draw off of. He realized that with exploring the nature upon him, he could could come up with new and better drawings faster than ever before. The freedom that was portrayed at the beach, like kids running around with others they had just met, put so many ideas into his head. When Escher got back home, he sat down and instantly began drawing. He found that by just opening his eyes to the world around him, led him to big and better ideas that wouldn't have been brought upon him by just sitting at home. Every morning, M.C. Escher wakes up, puts his majic ball in his hand and looks at himself and thinks: where should i go next?

Embellished Blind Contour Self-Portrait Drawing

Although we started this project on February 2, I am a little behind due to vacation. When I was first introduced to this project, I had no clue what to expect. As I started, I found this project to be quite fun. Even though I am not as far along with this assignment as I should have, I have an idea of what to do next. This assignment is a fun task and I look forward to how the final result will turn out.

Empty Bowls Dinner

February 9, pencil that in. We are holding our empty bowls dinner which includes pasta and soup. For about a month now, my classmates and I have been busy working on creating bowls to help make this night happen. We rolled out the clay, shaped our bowls, had them fired, and topped them all off with a glaze. Each bowl has its own unique color and shape. The profit we make from this wonderful night will go to The Food Bank of South Jersey to help thousands of starving people who rarely have something on their plate. Come eat at this fabulous dinner and help feed those who are starving!

Lantern

I've got to be honest, when I first heard about this assignment, i wasn't too thrilled. I had never heard of anything like this and was not too sure how the final piece would turn out. When i started the project I began to enjoy it more and more. For this project, we had to pick a season: winter, spring, summer, or fall. Our job was to make a paper cut out of that season and turn it into a lantern. At first my lantern was going to look like a tree, but i decided to turn the tree into a funky, unique pattern and make a cut out of a city skyline. On the bottom of my lantern are some bushes. I am happy about the turn out of my lantern and would love to construct one again!
