Artist Research Post

M.C. Escher was born 1898 and died in 1972. Escher became famous with his amazing graphic pictures. Most of his drawings were of unrealistic and impossible structures. Most of Escher's paintings were in black and white and had a 3D appearance. He was a left-handed artist who made over 2000 drawings and more than 400 woodcarvings and lithographs. This artist did not only draw wacky looking structures, but he produced many murals, book illustrations, and designed stamps. M.C. Escher met Jetta and married her in 1924 in Rome. I like this artist because he mostly uses black and white which makes the observer use their imagination to determine the colors of each thing in his drawing. I also enjoy his creativity towards different perspectives that he draws. For example, Escher drew pictures with a sphere in someone's hand that shows them looking at him or herself and an eye with an image in the pupal to show what the person or thing is looking at. I am also fascinated by his ability to make his sketches look 3D. An image that appeals to me is the drawing of the hands that looks like they're going off the page and that one hand is drawing the other hand. Another picture that appeals to me is the hands holding a mirrored ball. This picture fascinates me because it puts the observer into the person's shoes that's holding the ball and making them feel like they're the painting. It makes the person looking at the painting think a little. Another drawing of his that I like is the one of a boy looking at a frame in a gallery and making himself feel like he is really there. The picture he is looking at looks as if it is coming to life and that it will take the observer there. I enjoy this picture because its unrealistic but yet still makes you think and believe you are in the painting as well.
